John and Valerie Paul started this journey in the fall of 1999 in the small town of Manooka, Illinois.
By that point, Master Paul and Shihan had been studying martial arts for over 10 years and had just received an offer to purchase their instructor's dojo of 30 students.
They always enjoyed helping with classes but it wasn't until their move to Indiana that they realized that could make a career out of it. Along with their three kids: Kristen (15), Eric (12), and Eyan (8), the doors of Indiana Martial Arts were opened on Main Street in Mooresville. Since then we have evolved and grown to over 230 students, but the goal has always been the same: "Changing lives one belt at a time."
Today this goal has expanded to a mission statement that further reflects our ideals:
"IMA and its staff are dedicated to providing a God-centered, martial arts environment
that empowers its students, their families, and the community by instilling
values, principles, and practices that continuously develop and enrich lives."
Our vision is that every student that graces our doors experiences the family atmosphere we offer along with the lasting impact that martial arts has in the areas of respect, focus, confidence, humility, and self-control.
